List of Six
I orginally posted this on our team blog, www.jasonmangrum.com It is a handy idea to help you organize your time and optimize your to-do list for better productivity. I have always found myself multi-tasking- I don’t really know any other way of doing things, but since getting involved with internet marketing, this has become very apparent in my life. It is not unusual for me to have 7 to 10 programs open on the computer at any one time, probably 2 of those being web browsers each with 5 to 8 windows open in each. Quite likely I will at the same time be trying to get the housework done and talking on the phone. I recently came across a very simple idea that will improve your productivity both online and off by up to 50%. An efficiency expert named Ivy Lee was paid $25,000 (in the days when that was a lot of money) for spending less than 20 minutes teaching this idea to the president of a steel mill. The president was frustrated because although he know what he should be doing he was unable to structure his time for maximum efficiency. All you need to put the ‘List of six’ method into action is a notepad and a pen. First write down 6 things that have to be done each day. Number them from 1 to 6 in order of importance. Then work on each task, starting with number 1 until it is completed. Yes, distractions will, arise, emails will come in containing interesting links, but do not allow yourself to be distracted. Turn of your email notifier and focus only on the task at hand. When task number 2 is done, go to number 3. Concentrate only on the current job! When the day is over, you may or you may not have completed all six tasks, but every evening make a new list for the morning. There is 'A List of Six' software available- I believe it costs around $15, but in my opinion a pen and notepad will suffice just fine. By following this simple system, you productivity will increase dramatically. |

Very interesting concept. I have a six pack of beer in the fridge I can try this on. I will write down 1. Drink can 1 2. Drink can 2 3. Drink can 3 and so on I will ignore all distractions until I finish can 6 I think this is a plan I can live with.
